Volcan Azul is more than a hundred years old and is now run by Alejo Castro, the sixth generation of farmers. Alejo, who is in his thirties, is part of the modern coffee movement and has considerably developed his production: plot-based planting, adaptation of prestigious botanical varieties and goldsmith's precision in the many processes carried out on the farm.
Volcancito is a Blend of varieties of the youngest coffee trees on the farm, always with the same care in the process, making it one of the best quality/price ratios in Costa Rica. Make no mistake this daily driver packs a beautiful punch of flavor. It is nutty with caramelized honey and toffee tones and a pleasant overall sense of balance with fresh cherry vibes.
Above all else Alejo and the Castro family are very likeable and are driven by a desire to do things the right way, doing everything possible to preserve their natural heritage. For me, this coffee is the reflection of a state of mind and one I'm proud to work with. An environmentally conscious family who is contributing to reducing the effects of global warming. This attitude towards the environment is exactly what we want to pass on to our children and future generations as well.
